Project Name

Bernard Hybrid

Sitting on the west shoreline of Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island, the Bernard Hybrid is a residence assembled with vernacular gabled forms, sited between former sea captains homes that line the working harbor.

Small in stature, the 2400 sq.ft residence contains common spaces on the first floor and private spaces on the second floor. Each family member has a designated building volume, accommodating them both individually and collectively.

Clean reductive exterior details distill the familiar forms to their essentials while interstitial elements embody a more modern expression.

A hybrid home of old and new.
