Project Name

Cedar Ranch

The project was mainly an exterior study of how to update a ranch. A dated one-story ranch with walk-out basement on the coast of Hapswell was in dire need of a visual entrance, as well as a deck that could shade the owner on the south side of the house.
Minimal interior improvements were made, DMA worked with the owner on a complete facelift.

The front porch facing the driveway, sufficient only as a walk way, was completely removed. A new covered entry was added that indicates the front entrance of the house. The house was further extended to the south by adding a covered porch. The cedar slat accent wall doubles as a privacy screen from the driveway, but also uniquely filters afternoon sunlight like one is sitting in the forest. Even the galvalume roof offers an interesting look as it reflects the sky and changes color along with it.

The large porch on the south side of the house has one portion uncovered to give the owner flexibility in seating arrangements, as well as providing beautiful views of the water as it juts out from the house like a bowsprit.

The wholesale change in aesthetic was completed with a very small budget. The benefit is a house that plays with the sun and offers a sense of mystery behind the cedar clad walls.
