The original gambrel-roofed home, built in the 1980s and set back from the water a few hundred feet, needed a major updating and expansion. The new owners wanted to make it their own, adding a vibrant character, more common spaces that took advantage of the expansive views, and plenty of energy efficient upgrades to increase comfort and reduce operational expenses.

The bedroom wing manifests as an energetic, sculptural form based on the angles of the existing gambrel, with an expanse of glass that joins forms, wrapping around the new dining room and reaching out and down toward the water on the back side. An intermediate, bold yellow connector serves as the new entry, and takes emphasis off of the old wing. New south glass and a large shed form that faces south with 5.6 kW of photovoltaic solar panels brings down the electricity consumption of the project.
